Sophie & Matt at Kirklinton Hall
This was a beautiful wedding where every single person present truly matters. Sophie and Matt’s intimate wedding at Kirklinton Hall was exactly that — small in numbers, but absolutely overflowing with love, emotion and personality.
With just six guests, two very important dogs, and two hours of coverage, their day proved that weddings do not need huge guest lists or all-day timelines to feel meaningful. In fact, this beautiful celebration felt deeply personal from beginning to end.
Set amongst the stunning countryside just outside Carlisle, Kirklinton Hall is one of those venues that immediately feels magical the moment you arrive. Full of character, history and charm, it offers the perfect balance of elegance and relaxed warmth. The grounds are beautiful in every direction, with gorgeous gardens, peaceful surroundings and endless little corners that photograph beautifully. Even on a shorter wedding day, there were so many stunning backdrops to work with.
The weather could not have suited the atmosphere better either — warm with some lovely sunshine throughout the afternoon, making the whole day feel calm, relaxed and full of light.
One of the most memorable parts of Sophie and Matt’s wedding was their ceremony. Rather than rushing through it, they created something truly personal and emotional. Their ceremony included heartfelt readings, personalised vows and a hand fasting ritual, making it feel incredibly meaningful and unique to them. You could feel how much thought and care had gone into every part of it.
The personalised vows were especially emotional — honest, funny and full of genuine love. In such an intimate setting, every word carried even more weight. There was laughter, happy tears and so many smiles throughout the ceremony.
And then there were the dogs — who completely stole the show more than once.
Having dogs at your wedding always brings such a lovely relaxed energy, and at Kirklinton Hall they fit perfectly into the day. From wandering around the grounds to being part of photos with the guests, they made the whole celebration feel even more personal and true to Sophie and Matt as a couple.
One of the things that makes Kirklinton Hall so special for intimate weddings is how it never feels too big or overwhelming. It works beautifully for smaller celebrations, creating an atmosphere that feels cosy, welcoming and romantic while still giving you all the beauty and grandeur of a stunning country house venue.
Sophie and Matt’s wedding was a reminder that the most important thing about a wedding day is simply being surrounded by the people — and dogs — you love most. No pressure, no fuss, just a beautiful ceremony, meaningful moments and a whole lot of happiness.
A perfect little wedding in one of Cumbria’s most beautiful venues.
